A Reaction Paper Base on the Movie "Frida"
The film tells the life story of an artist from Mexico, Frida Kahlo. The author of the
biography, Hayden Herrera, explains the life of Kahlo while her most famous husband concealed
her. In the United States, the movie has become an important icon in the recent times. The actor
is well known for her inner personalized painting style that is focused on her entire life. In the
play, she has painted a number of self-portraits including her stormy marriage to Rivera; he is
portrayed as a womanizer who eventually had numerous love affairs with both men and women.
The images seem to portray the life of an ordinary woman who undergoes much strain in
their marriage. The painting of her stormy marriage depicts that there is other stormy marriages
for the local people. The painting shows her leftist political leaning. This followed the Mexican
revolution shortly where both she and Rivera had gone to the communist party. Kahlo is
portrayed, from the biography, as having numerous impairments such as polio, which had
continued to weaken her right leg from the age of six years. The movie seems to paint a picture
of the ordinary struggles that the people who have special needs undergo in their normal lives.
To compound her problems, at the age of eighteen years, a tragic road accident left her spinal
cord broken, and other parts of her body were impaired.
She had to undergo more than 30 operations that did not fruit in easing her pain. Despite
these challenges, the movie tries to describe the opportunities that are there for such people.
Kahlo was suspected to have congenital impairments. In my opinion, the author of the biography
uses a person with such numerous disabilities as a way of giving hope to the people who are in
the same situations. Regardless of her disabilities, she makes to become a painter and neglects
her medicine career, which seems impossible due to the accident. The change of mind appears to
