Evidence Based Decision Making
In this paper, we will discuss using evidence-based decision making using the following
items: Data, HR metrics, analytics, significance of collecting the correct data for that decision
making and what happens when the wrong data is corrected. Also, the company wants to know
how we collect that data, the score card, benchmarking and return on investment.
What does Evidence Based mean?
According to the HR Daily Advisor, “Evidence based decision making is when an
organization, department or person evaluates the decision or the process against data collection,
real experiences and expert opinions to ensure that decision is likely to have the desired
outcomes.” (Miller, HR Daily Advisor, 2017)
Once that evidence is gathered, a person or department can then provide management
with those figures to make an informed decision such as hiring needs/goals, budgetary needs/cuts
and what the company needs to do to stay profitable in those departments by using that evidence.
Why use data?
Data is incredibly important in anyway one needs it. Data is the important information for
one to see if there is a potential problem or a need. Evidence is data is relevant and furnishes
proof that actually supports a conclusion.
A company should use data in the way it is presented. However, it depends on what the
data is showing. The data may not support the need in the company. For example, the HR team is
overrun with new projects and needs to hire more people so the team makes an informed
decision and presents that data and needs to management and then can be applied to make a
decision to hire a few new people due to that data.
