NURSING PHILOSOPHY 2
To me, nursing is more than just a career. Nursing is my chance to give back to society
and positively contribute towards the wellness of my and other communities by promoting both
physical, mental, and emotional health. As a nurse, I perceive myself as a care provider, a
teacher, a leader, a manager, and a patient advocate. The numerous nursing roles and
responsibilities take a bit from most other careers making it a collection of many significant
duties. For me, being a nurse is such a huge privilege. People entrust me with their most valued
possessions, health. As a nurse, I have come to understand the concept of health from different
perceptions. Regardless of the individual expectations and perceptions of health, one thing that
stands out is that health is all about the quality of life.
Because of the role nurses play in improving the quality of life for most patients, they
often become engaged in their lives. For some patients, especially those with chronic illnesses,
nurses become a part of their daily lives. They share in all the moments and the emotions.
Individually, I have had to share my patients’ experiences making sense of all the small things,
mending broken relationships with their families, and offering support even when I am
overwhelmed by my life. All the interactions with my patients, any change in their lives, the joy
of recovery, and the families' happiness upon recovery keep me going. Nursing is important to
me because it allows me to impact people’s lives positively. I am committed to enhancing my
skills, both through experience and education.
For me, being a nurse means doing so much more than what the profession requires me to
do. For me, it is probably the most important job there is. The most significant nursing aspect is
that it is based on deep care and love that can only come from the heart. It is not the big moments
such as performing a procedure that makes nursing special. It is the small moments, the hugs
