Meaning of Criminal Justice
In ancient times people used to commit crimes. Unique bodies did not do the punishment
for lawbreakers. The citizens of the country used to judge lawbreakers and decide the
punishment. Currently, the work of dealing with lawbreakers is left to criminal justice (Sawyer,
2019). Criminal justice is done under the criminal justice system. The criminal justice systems
are made up of institutionalized offices having many departments to deal with criminals. The
institutions include courts, prisons, police posts, and police cells. The essay will explore the
meaning of criminal justice. It will show the work of criminal justice and discuss people who
work in criminal justice departments.
Criminal justice is defined as a system used to identify, judge, apprehend, and lastly
punish lawbreakers or criminals. Criminal justice is done in criminal justice systems. The
criminal justice system is the social institution set legally for enforcing the law governing
criminals (Rofiq, 2019). Criminal justice involves delivering justice to lawbreakers. Criminal
justice has two phases. The first phase of criminal justice involves the rights of lawbreakers. In
the event of a crime, criminals have rights. Before a criminal is proved guilty, all rights of the
criminal have to be followed. The other phase of criminal justice includes the punishment
lawbreakers are given (Sawyer, 2019). After the rights of the criminals are considered, the next
step is to undergo punishment. Criminal justice has been there since ancient times. In ancient
times there were no courts. Citizens judged the criminals.
The citizens' criminal investigation was done, and after the evidence of the crime was
achieved, the citizens chose the right punishment. According to ancient times, criminal justice
can be defined as all means through which citizens can punish those who break laws. Over time
criminal justice has registered several changes. There are currently set institutions where
