Summary of Park Decision Making Model
The integrated decision-making model is useful in making decisions concerning the patients.
Nurses use the model to ensure the decisions which are made by the doctors and nurses are made
according to the legal, ethical issues in nursing (Park, 2012). The decision model involves the statement
of the problem, analysis of the problem, developing alternative solutions for the problem, and developing
a recommendation on the methods used in solving the problem. In the case study concerning Dr. Wayne
and a 45-year-old lady, an ethical decision-making model is used to ensure the patient is discharged
according to the health care system's ethical issues. The case presents a problem faced by the nurses in
discharging the 45-year-old lady from the hospital to home apartments.
The woman was suffering from a spinal cord injury and a traumatic brain problem. According to
the nurses, the lady was to be discharged to home care (Park, 2012). For the lady to be discharged, the
integrated decision-making model was required. The decision model involves the statement of the
problem. The problem found in the case study was about discharging the patient to a sub-optimal place.
The lady was to be discharged to the home apartment which was not appropriate according to the patient's
condition. The patient had a problem with movement and needed an apartment with a big door. The home
apartments of the patient had a problem with the bathroom door which was small. The other problem
which the case presented was about the primary caregiver of the patient. The person who could provide
care for the patient was the son. According to the doctor's evidence, the son was not the right person to
provide the care. The son was accused of drinking alcohol, a condition which would not favor the patient.
Ethical Principles Used in the Case Study
In the ethical decision-making model, ethical principles are used to ensure the decisions made are
according to the legal health ethical issues. The principle which was used in the decision making was the
