Research the Kinsey Institute Website:
Create a list of 5 things that you learned from this website
1. The website is about Exploring love, sexuality, and well-being. In 1948, Dr. Alfred
Kinsey changed the world's understanding of human sexuality.
Today, Dr. Sue Carter and the Kinsey Institute have a broader mission: investigating the
science of love, its connection to sexuality, and their collective impact on our humanity.
2. I learned that the Flower of Aphrodite is the symbol of the Kinsey Institute. In Greek
mythology, Aphrodite is the goddess of desire, love, sexuality, and maternal
reproduction. The stylized red anemone, a flower associated with her, is composed of six
vesica piscii. Ancient Greeks held the number six sacred for its representation of
equilibrium, harmony, and balance.
3. It was learnt that Drs. Alfred Kinsey, Wardell Pomeroy, and Clyde Martin developed the
Heterosexual-Homosexual Rating Scale—more commonly known as “The Kinsey
Scale.” First published in Sexual Behavior in the Human Male (1948), the scale
accounted for research findings that showed people did not fit into exclusive heterosexual
or homosexual categories.
4. I learned that there is a much wider range of size in men's penises when flaccid, with the
average ranging from 1 to 4 inches. In general, smaller, flaccid penises lengthen at
erection by a greater percentage than larger, flaccid penises, with most men reaching an
average size of 5 to 7 inches. This means the flaccid size of a penis is not a good
predictor of erect size. The vast majority of men measure within the average genital size
range and have a penis size that is more than adequate for sexual functioning.

5. I learned some amazing facts about condom use. A 2002 study of college-age men
reported that in the previous three months
- 30% put the condom on upside down and then turned it over
- 40% did not leave room at the tip of the condom when applying it
- 15% removed the condom before completing intercourse
- 43% put condoms on after starting sex
- 32% had erection loss while applying the condom
- 42% wanted to use condoms but had none available
Further, men who experience condom associated erection problems (CAEP) also report
inconsistent condom use and not using condoms for the complete act of intercourse.
If condom use is incorrect, it won't protect. Understanding and addressing these reasons
is critical to preventing STI transmission and unplanned pregnancy.
