Abstract

This research project pertains to a book having photographs and illustrations to show the

researcher’s personal expression about the Rawalpindi city. The aim of the book is to feature

photographs and illustrations creating dynamic, amusing, unconventional and honest portrait of

the Rawalpindi city by the use of a combination of photographs and illustrations. The book shall

highlight the city’s famous places, things, food, trans-genders, life of the poor, the transport

system and its historical buildings.

Rawalpindi city has a long history and rich culture traditions dating back to pre-historic times.

With the change of political scenario of the region, the city witnessed a lot of socio-cultural

transitions and changes. All of these transitions have a lasting impact on the city’s life and

heritage and clues to the civilizations the city has belonged to in the past are evident from its

buildings, culture, languages and traditions.

The researcher uses easy language as a tool to gather the attention not only of the stakeholder

population, but of the people belonging to other cities of Pakistan as well as foreigners willing to

know more about the city and its culture. The book will serve not only as a valuable resource for

all the stakeholders but will also project the soft and positive image of the city in the eyes of the

readers/viewers about what Rawalpindi is all about and what peculiarities it possesses as a city of

Pakistan. Amidst the terrorism laden image of the country and its cities, it will be a soft message

about how civilized the Pakistani people and cities are and as such convey a positive image in

the eyes of others.
