Abstract Introduction consanguineous marriage is the one with union between two people related as second cousins or closer.4Different studies all around the world have shown the increased risk of congenital aberrations associated with inbreeding. One study in Iran denoted 43.6% consanguinity in parents of affected children mostly having congenital diseases like psychomotor and mental retardation.5 A study in Lebanon concluded that there were significant associations between cousin marriage and diseases like bilateral cleft lip ± cleft palate, congenital blindness and cystic fibrosis.6 A study in Northern India also found the percentage of CHD to be 3.37% which rose to 4.41% in first cousins when children born to consanguineous marriages were compared to those born to a nonconsanguineous marriage, which was found to be 1.22%.7 An Irani study showed th ...
