According to Klosterman, zombie is a metaphor for our modern, task-filled world, in which the
problems we face multiply faster than we can solve them. In his own words, he says "Zombie are
a value stock. They are wordless and oozing and brain dead, but they are an ever-expanding
market with no glass ceiling. Zombies are a target-rich environment, literally and figuratively.
He more you fill them with bullets, the more interesting they become." By saying this he means
that people’s interest in zombies is increasing day by day and they are capturing more and more
attention of the audience, which would imply that all of us find some relief in watching zombies
one way or the other. This seems correct because this is what I have observed as well. For
example, the viewership of the first episode of Waling Dead surpassed that of season 4 premiere
of Mad Men by 89%. This supports Klosterman's claim because such a high viewership denotes
a very high interest response of the audience to zombies.
