This is to clarify the misperception created by some unfavorable yet unavoidable

circumstances on my side. I am less than 18 years of age, my mother Shaista Ghafoor was

interviewed by a Departmental Officer from Australian High Commission Islamabad. The

officer highlighted some concerns which are clarified as follows:

Unfortunately, my mother, hailing from a remote and geographically marginalized area of

Pakistan, is illiterate due to unavailability of necessary educational facilities during her

childhood and adolescence. This fueled her passion to ensure that I get the best possible

education available in the world. Now, when our financial circumstances permit her to afford

my schooling abroad, she wanted me to have the best education and grooming which seems

quite impossible in Pakistan due to the lack of equity and equality which is inbuilt in

Pakistan’s educational system, the same factors which contributed to her illiteracy. Knowing

the names of my prospective schools requires knowledge and comprehension of English

language as well as basic understanding of course structures and how education abroad is

programmed. She being a layman in this regard could not reproduce the names which I often

speak to her. All she has is a passion for my best schooling abroad as a dream and if I do not

get the chance, we might end up being trapped in the vicious circle of marginalization

regarding education and human development.

In this regard, I will like to add that I am the one who shall go to Australia and acquire

education there. As a result, I am fully aware of the nature, status and limitation of the visa

which shall be granted to me which includes:

➢ My enrollment in a school throughout the duration of my visa.

➢ The restriction to undertake any sort of work in Australia for the period I am in

Australia under the Student (subclass 500) visa.

➢ Adequate cover for my health under the head of Overseas Student Health Cover

(OSHC).
