Project Summary

Epilepsy is a common neurological disorder which affects the people all over the world.

It is a matter of concern especially in children. Over 50 million people are affected

worldwide and in Pakistan its prevalence is about 9.9 per 1000 population.

Role of caregivers is very important in epilepsy like because patients cannot handle

their disease on their own. Quality of Life of the caregivers is greatly affected while

caring these patients. Studies have been done worldwide to assess the quality of life of

caregivers. In Pakistan fewer studies are available on this topic. So the objective of the

study is to know the current situation of quality of life of caregivers.

It is descriptive cross-sectional study to be conducted at The Children Hospital and

Institute of Child Health Lahore with sample size of 90 patients. Study duration is 16

weeks. Sampling technique used is convenient purposive sampling. Variables are

identified. Data will be collected by demographic Performa and Zarit Caregiver Burden

Scale will be used to assess quality of life of caregivers. Data will be analyzed by using

SPSS version 20.0.Ethical consent and permission from concerned administration of

hospital will be taken. Estimated cost of project is about 20000 Rupees. This study will

be helpful for concerned hospital authorities and policy makers to figure out strategies

for the relief of caregivers of epileptic children. Work plan is made 4 weeks for preparing

research protocol and questionnaire, 4 weeks for data collection and 8 weeks for data

analysis, compiling and writing of dissertation.
