I paid a series of visits to the University of Utah Hospital to carry out a risk analysis of the

same and to recommend measures to mitigate the risks. Keeping the five components of the

risk management plan in mind, I will describe my risk management for University of Utah

hospital as follows:

Planning:

The first step in designing the risk management plan for University of Utah Hospital was to

lay out a plan of the exercise. First of all, I defined what risk is and then I paid a preliminary

visit to the hospital with this definition in my mind. After the preliminary visit, I chalked out

an overall risk assessment plan which included the following:

➢ Assigning days to carry out the risk assessment:

The days were Monday, 18th and Tuesday, 19

of September, 2017.

➢ Identifying the areas of the hospital where I would search for risks in detail:

The areas I identified were:

❖ The emergency room (ER)

❖ Pharmacies

❖ Dental clinic

❖ MRI/Nuclear medicine

❖ Pulmonary clinic (outpatient)

These areas were selected after a preliminary visit and the small number of

areas selected reflects the scope of and shortage of time for the assignment

➢ Identifying the hospital personnel to interview the risk assessment
