Q.3 COUNTRY CHOSEN: PAKISTAN
Ans. Here is an assessment of Pakistan’s progress through demographic transition
since 1980 in the context of its relationship to the regional pattern.
Since its independence in 1947, Pakistan has been undergoing a demographic
transition. Several variables can be used to assess this transition. Some of them are
examined as follows since 1980:
Crude Birth Rate (Per 1000)
Crude birth rate is the number of live births occurring among the population of
a given geographical area during a given year, per 1,000 mid-year total population
of the given geographical area during the same year.
Pakistan has not been very successful in controlling the crude birth rate compared
to other nations in the region viz India and Bangladesh. In 1980, it had the second
highest birth rate but unfortunately has the highest now.
