practicum and internship manual: A resource for graduate counseling students (2nd ed.). New York, NY:
Springer) Only chapter 6 is related to this assignment and please quote the chapter 2 or 3 times during
the paper.
Clinical supervision is a standard training modality to help you on your journey
to being a professional counselor. Supervisors can take on multiple roles,
including both supporting and challenging you. What are your reactions to your
midterm evaluation? What are you most and least surprised by? What struggles
are you having at your site, and how can supervision help you with them? List
three areas or skills for improvement, and share your plans for how you will
address these in supervision, including individual, group, and triadic.
My insight: Overall I can say that I am ok with my midterm evaluation, what
surprised me the most is the fact that they graded me a bit lower. For instance,
earning a 4 instead of a 5 in areas that I have not been tested yet. I have not done
individual counseling yet, or intakes, or biopsychosocial and in those areas I was
given a 4. In their words, it means that I have not done anything wrong, it just
means I need to work on it when the time comes. So, my surprise is basically how
can you grade me a bit lower on something I have yet to try. On the other hand,
the evaluation is ok, they seem to appreciate my work and that makes me happy.
Struggles I would say that just writing the progress notes, which is a lot of work.
They have changed templates for about two times, so it is even harder to get used
to, but overall I think the progress notes are easy, it just takes a lot of time since
they are done individually for about 15 clients per session, and we (me and the
other student intern from NOVA) have 3 sessions in one day, three times a week.
