2018 looks into the unique aspects of
corporate communication. He acknowledges the impact of technology on communication
and the benefits of the new models. However, the author cautions us against over-reliance
on these modern communication as they can reduce humanity at workplace. In this
article, Timothy discusses three forms of communication, their benefits and
disadvantages. They include emails, phone and video calls, and in-person meetings. He
further analyses each form and compares it with the other two allowing the readers to
make decisions on the best form to use in a particular situation.
Timothy’s article is relevant to our course as it touches on various aspects of
communication. In essence, the three forms of communication he proses are based on the
eight essential components; source, message, channel, receiver, feedback, environment
context and interference. For example, email is one of the communications channels
commonly used in corporate environment which is elaborately discussed in the article.
Email has several benefits including ability to send multiple documents and written
communication. Besides, the receiver has enough time to interpret the message with
minimal interference hence low chances of miscommunication. However, use of
ambiguous terms by the sender can result in distortion of the message. Timothy captures
all these communication component in his article.
In addition, the article focuses on two primary forms of business communication
(written and oral) that was covered in chapter one to three. Oral communication refers to
