Ridges and valleys were all stuck with amazement, the river flowed between the two ridges
while water was bubbling creating a rhythm to its maker. The birds of the air were deeply
asleep in their next waiting to wake up and sing melodiously to their maker. The lights in the
homes were all put off and you could hear the snoring of the asleep people from far. This
silence was haunting. It penetrated deep in the nerves that caused one to shake like a feeble
leaf. The animals of the land never knew what could happen next.
With much expectation, the new day dawn with all the faces glittering with joy. It was a
Monday morning where everyone was busy undertaking their chores. Women and small girls
carried empty guards to the river while others returned with guards full of water to their
homestead. Others were left at homing milking the cattle’s while others had woken up very
early and rushed to their farms to gather yams. For those who went to the river at this time
were the lazy ones. The early risers had already fetched water and they were busy preparing
breakfast for their families.
Whistles were heard as Men were seen busy escorting the small boys to the respective
grazing lands. This was one of the various roles that had to be undertaken by boys while the
girls were left back at home with their mothers to be taught various house chores. The elders

Without no hesitation, immediately Dennis was admitted to the so called New Era School. In
here he was so intelligent such that the whites saw him as a potential church leader in the
spreading of the gospel. But little did they know it was already a set mission to know their
ways and movements.
Time came and passed, days were still passing while they villagers still did not know what to
do. These strangers had already taken almost everything that belonged to them and claimed it
is there. Anyone who attempted to differ with them was punished heavily and dealt with
perpendicularly. Some of the customs and practices started to be condemned which included
the female genital mutilation and also the male circumcision. It was considered as barbaric
and ruthless.
“The sleeping lions now had to wake up or else sleep forever. It was now time to rise and
fight for what yours is not just staying there and watch like women. said Amos. This was
one of the prominent elders in the region.
The time came when the missionaries had to chase away the children of the non-believers
who had refused to do away with the old ways. Dennis was one of the children who were to
