Provide an overview of the purpose of pre-employment testing
A pre-employment test is an examination given to job applicants by a possible employer
before being hired. The reason for these types of tests is to regulate personality behaviors and
characteristics, reasoning abilities, job knowledge, and skills, as well as performances. An
employer needs to know if an individual is qualified for the position in specific subjects and with
software and if they can perform certain tasks. Companies use these tests to quickly narrow
down the pool of applicants saving time and money. Its best to use pre-employment testing is
best used early in the hiring process, because by testing all applicants who make your initial
“cut,” you’ll be able to weed out any candidates who don’t have what you’re looking for.
Describe the tests currently being conducted
The prescreening tests that Home Depot uses presently are drug testing and background
checks according to backgroundchecks.com. they also state that an applicant does not have to
disclose their criminal history at the beginning of the hiring process because all offers of
employment are contingent on the applicant passing these two checks.” Home Depot has a
system through which it flags applications as green, yellow, or red depending on the findings of
their criminal background checks”. (backgroundchecks.com) Green means the applicant has a
clean or desirable background, yellow means that there are areas of concerns, and red means
there are significant concerns and the candidate is disqualified from being hired even though they
may meet the rest of the qualification and skills needed for the position.
