Innovation simply means devising new ideas or methods. For Innovation to take place in
an organization, certain characteristics must be exhibited by the members. For example, the
members should at all cost avoid hierarchy. This means that everyone is equal as nobody gets
special treatment according to the ranks they hold. This will encourage every member to air their
ideas without fear of his or her seniors. This is evident from the IDEO organizations.
Another principle that the IDEO organization works with to encourage innovation amongst
its members is taking seriously every random idea from the members. They then form a team and
discuss ways in which these random ideas can be developed to a functioning reality. This goes

the ideas are put into an account and the best used to develop the final products.
Being organized is another principle to which IDEOS owes its success. The organization
members have their clearly stipulated time for every activity involved in the design of a new

is encouraged. This ensures members are at ease when doing their work, therefore, encouraging
innovativeness. Members, therefore, are free to air whatever ideas they may have. Afterward, the
rest of the organization form a team to discuss how the idea can be designed into a reality.
