Unit 3 Preparing for an Interview Worksheet
Instructions:
By the end of Unit 3, you will have scheduled a time to meet with your Career Coach for a practice job
interview. As you have learned in the content of this unit, you need to plan for that interview. As
Benjamin Franklin once said, “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.” Considering the importance of
a successful interview, planning for it should be a top priority.
Please respond to the following in complete sentences:
Select one (1) strategy you plan to use during the interview, using the dropdown menu.
Practice responses to dificcult questions you might be asked
The dropdown menu includes the following, use this list to select your strategy if you are unable to use
the dropdown:
Research the company to learn the employer's needs
Identify potential problems you can solve
Prepare for potential objections the hiring manager might have
Plan how to demonstrate the elements of P.R.I.C.E. in the interview
Decide which soft skills you want to share during the interview
Practice responses to difficult questions you might be asked
Plan the questions you wish to ask the interviewer
1. Explain the purpose of the strategy you have chosen (Include 1 external source in your
response). The purpose of this strategy is so that you are prepared for potential questions the
interviewer may ask and you are able to take those questions and answer them smoothly and
with confidence (Why you should rehearse your job interview, 2017).
2. How will this strategy lead to a successful interview? This strategy will lead to a successful
interview because it allows for better flowing communication between interviewer and
interviewee. Also, the interviewee is not stumbling upon their words or left unable to answer
the question and appearing nervous and unprepared.
3. Describe two actions you will take in using the chosen strategy. (Include 1 external source in
your response).
a. Action 1 I would take the time out to practice mock interviews in preparation for the
real one and research potential interview questions to get a grasp on what to expect.
b. Action 2 Another action I would take would be to get an unbiased opinion from people
who have been interviewers so that they may critique my performance and provide

feedback that would better improve my skills (The importance of interview practice,
2008).
List two (2) questions you plan to ask the hiring agent during the interview.
Question 1: Is there anything that concerns you about my background or qualifications being a fit for this
job?
Question 2: What are the next steps I can anticipate in the interview process?
1. For each question, describe why you chose to ask it.
a. Question 1 I choose to ask this question because I believe it puts the interviewer on the
spot to reflect on the interview and allows them to respond honestly thus giving the
interviewee a chance to either clarify information or one last shot to sell yourself.
b. Question 2 For this question, I choose to ask it because this gives you an insight on
where the hiring manager sees you in the application process. This also makes the
interviewer reflect on the interview and can give you an idea of if they see you moving
forward with the hiring process.
2. For each question, explain how the question relates to your chosen career field.
a. Question 1 This question relates to not just my chosen career field, but any career field
as it gives you a chance to see if the interviewer has any concerns or questions about
your resume so that you may address them.
b. Question 2 This question also relates to any career field and not just my chosen one
because it gives you an insight into where you stand in the application and hiring
process.
Once you have completed this worksheet (use the assignment rubric to ensure it is complete), submit it
to the assignment area.
