CONFLICT NEGOTIATION AND RESOLUTION 2
Conflict Resolution at the Workplace
Human beings differ in thought and preferences due to their very nature. These
differences, if not handled amicably, generate into conflicts. This phenomenon is evident in
every workplace, where individuals conflict on matters ranging from trivial issues of habits and
behaviors to weighty issues of policy and operational frameworks. These are referred to as
causes of the conflict. The same therefore demands to be resolved, attracting various methods to
arrive at the ultimate solution. In the case provided, this paper will analyze the effect of these
conflicts on the organization and interrogate methods that may be applicable in an attempt to
resolve the conflict, highlighting the likely outcomes of the said methods of resolution.
Factors that cause conflict
Personalities
Every work environment is made up of people with diverse personalities. Such characters
do not automatically synchronize, creating a flurry of reactions in the workplace environment.
Employees more often than not disagree based on what they feel about each other, without any
other concrete motivation (Kartz & Flynn, 2013). In such instances, strife arises based on the fact
that employees do not recognize and appreciate the diverse personalities within that space.
Communication
A breakdown in communication has been attributed to be the cause of many a conflict.
This breakdown results into miscommunication of a particular idea or information.
Miscommunication thereby results into misunderstanding, which attracts adverse reactions from
the members of staff. Inter-personal conflict, therefore, arises as a result of incorrect inference of
the speaker's intention by the recipient of the communication.
