Oracle is a computer technology-based corporation that has a multinational scope, with
its presence felt on a worldwide scale. It specializes in software and technology for databases and
has contemporarily delved into cloud engineering and enterprise software development. It deals
specifically with its brand of systems for database management. Considering its position as a
global giant in database systems management, having been ranked second regarding revenue, it
must always possess and retain the best employees to sustain its niche. The corporation's Human
Resource Department, therefore, has to work overtime to attract, recruit, select and retain the best
talents available to maintain its position (Monk & Wagner, 2012).
However, due to the dynamics of the technology market as well as the intrigues
surrounding human resource management, the corporation has to keep up with the trends, and
this would mean best practices. The preceding entails competent recruitment, retention and
circulation strategies.
Current state of labor
Oracle Corporation has over years been an employment giant and boasts of one of the
largest workforces globally. However, specialization of its personnel to align to market demands
has meant that some of its employees get redundant with time. For instance, its recent decision to
refocus on the Hardware Systems business said that some employees, specifically from the Santa
Clara office's Hardware Systems Division, had to be laid off. This move stems from the fact that
due to the paradigm shift towards hardware systems, the employees were rendered a surplus
workforce and hence redundant. Due to this decision, the firm has had to lay off 450 workers
across the employment spectrum (eWeekly, 2017).
Further to the situation above, the Chinese composite of the firm has also had to
experience some labor reshuffling. About 200 employees from the storage and operating system
