In management, performance management is described as the process through which
members of an organization starting from the management, the employees and other stakeholders
plan, review, execute and monitor the objectives that they have set for the institution. For an
institution to have an effect and flawless performance, it is imperative that it develops a
performance management system that suits its operations. Starbucks is one of the Wal-Mart is
one of the organizations that have successfully implemented a performance management system
to run its operations. In that regard, this paper examines the performance management system
that the company uses to achieve its goals.
The performance management system of Wal-Mart
In the retail industry, no one beats Wal-Mart. With over two million employees and
presence in over fifteen countries, it takes a lot to make sure that the company delivers on its
goals. While Wal-Mart is highly recognized for its business intelligence, a lot of people still do
not understand the management process of the company and the role that it plays in helping an
organization to achieve its goals. The performance management of Wal-Mart starts at the
recruitment method that the business employs. The company appreciates that the road towards
the quality delivery of services starts at the hiring stage. The institution has laid down processes
and procedures that are to be followed in recruiting the best professionals that the market has to
offer (Jia, 2008).
The next level of the performance in the organization is the training of the contracted
workers. In every institution, it is incredibly important to match the employees' skills with the
various duties in the company. For there to be an adequate performance, it is imperative that the
human resources department identifies the skills of all the employees and match them with the
