The International Labor Comparisons (ILC) data are employed to assess the United States
economic as well as labor market progress relative to that of other nations, and to weigh
America’s competitive position in the growing global markets (International Labour
Organization, n.d). However, for a company to succeed, there must be unprecedented growth in
whatsoever manner. For that reason, the overseas expansion allows these corporations to gain
momentum and also maximize their chances of making a profit. However, overseas expansion is
not as easy as it is seen to be because there are several things considered to promise this success
accordingly. One of the main things to consider is the availability of labor. For any company to
progress, labor is paramount. For the avoidance of doubt, labor statistics should be in advance
sought to promise this kind of success.
In this research, I will examine the Devon Energy company wishing to engage in
overseas expansion. Devon Energy Corporation is an independent energy company that deals
with the sea exploration for the production of the petroleum gas and other liquid fuel. The
corporation is in Oklahoma in the United States and most of its ventures have been in the United
States, but the company cannot hesitate to venture outside its current reach in a real and safe
country with ideal labor statistics. Most significantly, the nations which am going to examine
regarding labor statistics include China, United Kingdom, and Japan.
In Japan, there is a productive and full labor, and this could be a proper foundation to
start an overseas company. For instance, according to the International Labour Organization
(ILO), it has 10,000,000 employees with a staggering 5.6% of the total world employees.
Consequently, this shows that the number of unemployed people in Japan is less when compared
with its population. However, they could still offer a very fertile ground for an establishment of
