Personal Workplace Evaluation
Introduction
Groups exist in every facet of the society. While most groups serve social purposes, there
are a lot of groups that serve various business interests. Some of them are used to discuss, plan
and implement projects while some are used to achieve a broad range of purposes. However,
despite the nature and function of any group, one thing that remains constant is the importance of
communication in the settings. Instructively, communication is to groups what blood is to the
body. At that moment when the communication stops, the existence of the institution ceases.
However, the nature and mode of exchange in any group are influenced by wide range of issues
including the characteristics of the group, the roles of members and a plethora of other factors. A
while back, I was in a group that was dubbed ‘Oxygen.' It was a strategy group that included
individuals who had interests in assisting the members of the community who had been
consumed by the drug addiction menace. The group had terrible issues with communication that
derailed its effectiveness and ultimately led to its downfall. In that regard, this paper discusses
the manner in which various features impacted on the communication processes of the group.
Characteristics of the group
Firstly, it is necessary to indicate that the existence of the group was necessary. Its
existence was pegged upon the completion of the tasks that it had set for itself. Initially, the
group was scheduled to last for three years. We had predicted that we were capable of achieving
the goals by that time. However, by the end of the first year, the group disintegrated due to
challenges that could be traced to communication years. Because it was not structurally
organized, it may be classified as an informal group. However, the group had a leader who was
responsible for steering the meetings and organizing for the various programs. As indicated in
