STATISTICAL INFERENCE 2 2
Statistical Inference 2
Introduction
Statistical inference entails reaching a deduction concerning a populace as dictated by
analysis of data (Casella & Berger, 2002). This paper mainly entails the examination of the
methodology of coming up with statistical inference to establish if the null hypothesis is to be
accepted or rejected. The null and alternative hypothesis will help in doing the statistical
inference. Through the hypothesis test, one can determine if the current UniDun balls can be
driven further than the new SF balls.
Hypothesis Tests
Therefore if µ1 and µ2 represent the driving distance of the UniDun and SF balls
respectively, then the two hypothesis can be expressed as follows:
Null Hypothesis-H0: µ1 ≤ µ2
Alternative hypothesis is expressed as Ha: µ1 ˃ µ2.
Analysis
The Appropriate Statistical Test to Accept or Reject the Null Hypothesis
Given that the test entails conducting a comparison of two independent samples while the
population standard deviations are unknown, a t-test is the most appropriate test for doing the
null hypothesis. From the alternative hypothesis shown in the hypothesis section, it shows that a
one-tail (right tail) test will be applied.
