PERSONAL CONFLICT CASE STUDY 2
PERSONAL CONFLICT CASE STUDY
Introduction
More of than not, we find ourselves having differing views, opinions, and perceptions
with regards to a particular issue. This often calls for a consolidation of these different
viewpoints to come to a common ground that all the parties involved agree with. However, in
cases where these differences are not harmonized and resolved, a conflict may often resonate. A
conflict therefore is just struggle expression between at least two interdependent parties who
perceive incompatible goals, scarce resources, and interference from others in their goal
achievement (Coltri, 2020, pp. 10-12). Nonetheless, the culmination of a difference to a conflict
does not necessarily mean that the situation is out of hand; conflict management leading to
conflict resolution can still be undertaken. However, an unmanaged conflict results to a dispute
and this calls for dispute resolution. In all these stages from the differing viewpoints to a dispute,
management and consequently resolution only works if both the parties involved are committed
to the resolution process (AbuNimer, 1996, p. 40).
Case Study
About three years ago, my brother shared about some of my past personal experiences
with my mom, things that I confided in him in good faith. I felt betrayed by him because I was
still not comfortable with my mom knowing about them since they involved a period of
depression which led me to a drinking and a known party girl. This was because my mom had
often expressed her distaste for such a life and ridicule was all I expected from her.
