Creating a PICO (T)
The assignment pertains to creation of a PICO (T) question for choosing a research topic
which is based on the PICO (T) question proposed. Furthermore, an identification of eight
scholarly articles required for supporting the PICO (T) question and the research question shall
be identified. The PICO (T) question according to the provided worksheet along with the clinical
question is as follows:
P (patient/population/problem)
The population for the proposed PICOT question is adult smokers.
I (intervention)
The main intervention which is being tested is the cessation of smoking.
C (comparison)
The intervention will be compared to no cessation of smoking.
O (outcome)
The outcome which is trying to be accomplished is the reduction in incidence of chronic
obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), after one year of smoking cessation.
Clinical Question:
“In smoking adults, does smoking cessation lead to reduction in the incidence of Chronic
Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) compared to no cessation of smoking after one year of
smoking cessation?”
