The aspect of patients falling within a hospital setting is a dominant issue across the world.
Patients fall costs a health facility a significant amount of money. The latter leads to substantial
economic burden incase the patients sustain serious injuries. The most effective way to prevent
such incidents is to devise a risk assessment and prevention plan. The plan should cover the
following:
a. Diagnosis
b. Medication
c. Unsteady gait
d. Altered mental status
e. Poor environmental safety
f. Poor vision
g. Incontinence
Objectives
a. Proper Assessment and Reassessment Technique
Involve using a standard tool to establish risk factors associated with falls such as the
Morse Fall Scale. The latter includes the age of the patient, cognitive status, gender, as
well as the level of functions. A reassessment for falls which provides for changes for a
patient should be conducted.
b. Safety information to be shared across clinical and non-clinical staff on every level. The
latter to be performed using non-verbal cues.
