Adolescents Psychology Questions
1. The role of work in adolescence is to provide achievement and motivation. When a child
reaches adolescence, this entails that they may start working somewhere and develop
more of a sense of independence. Many studies have shown that working as an
adolescent have provided many benefits for youth, including an increase in organizational
skills, communication, as well as physical health. The role of work in college is to one
day find a job after college for the individual, in hopes to further their skills and apply
what they have learned in school to the field of work they go into.
2. The relationship that exists between parents and adolescents varies, but for the most part,
many adolescents would report having a positive relationship with their parents. Types of
relationships will depend on parenting style. It has been studied that when parents are
distant or when parents are too strict, this can cause adolescents to become more
delinquent, and can cause issues between them and their parents. However, when parents
are able to allow their teens to be themselves, while giving them some freedom and
guidance along with that, adolescents are able to grow and mature well. The same can be
true for emerging adults and their parents. Authoritative parenting has been shown as the
most effective and successful form of parenting which allows the child to have a mutual
understanding and respect of their parents. It allows for proper communication and social
skills, increases confidence and self-esteem, and allows a child to be ready for the adult
world.
