The Social Dilemma
The Social Dilemma is a documentary that shows how big social media companies influence
users. Social media companies use algorithms that make individuals get hooked to their
platforms (Augustine, Media, Culture and Society, p. 22). This social media film depicts how
these large companies source personal data. These companies utilize these data to target users
with ads and are largely unregulated. Facebook has answers to The Social Dilemma film
criticizing that it "buries the substance in exaggeration." A social dilemma is considered one of
the most eye-opening documentaries of all time.
This show is gaining popularity at a high rate. It does not provide a tangible solution despite
educating and helping viewers about the impact of social media. Discussion bases on responses
from giant companies like Facebook harm of social media that is highlighted in the documentary,
change of behaviors, legislative reforms, and lessons learned from this eye-opening
documentary.

supported platform. Hence, granting them the mandate to sell ads and offer them to everyone.
Mining data and delivering it to advertisers is genuinely a Facebook business system.
Demerits of Social Media
Metaphors are used to show the demerits of social media in the film Social Dilemma. A fictional
character is given an executive group of people functioning behind the scenes to maximize
interaction with a social media platform. This metaphor for algorithms but is a little bizarre in its
implication. Social Dilemma uses dramatization to show how social media algorithms are
established to be addictive.
Statistics show that vast numbers of people have deleted their social media accounts after
watching social dilemma. Jeff Orlowski, a film producer, frames ethical platform design as the
solution. Framing is one of many issues in the Social Dilemma approach. Social Dilemma relies
on interviews with former tech executives who don't realize the consequences of influencing
users' profits. It broadcasts the Silicon Valley where innocent geniuses wanted to improve the
world.
Behavioral Changes
Social dilemma does not offer any resolution for this problem. Social holes opened the viewer's
ideas on how much data is given up daily. Behaviors alter accordingly. Changing your privacy
setting is one method to restrict the data network from gathering information. In Facebook,
individuals are allowed to switch off-platform apps. It limits access to a third-party application.
Unfortunately, if you restrict your privacy settings on platforms, they can still mine data like the
content you read, like, or click. Limit the time you spend on these platforms. Apple's iOS has
