1. What are the components of an information system? What does "accessibility" mean in
the context of IT systems and how does it apply to health care settings? Provide a
specific example to support your rationale.
Components
An information system is a collection of integrated elements that gather and process data
to produce information and other digital products. It comprises computer hardware, computer
software, databases and warehouses, networks and telecommunications, and computer liveware,
also known as computer knowledgeable users/people. They input data, process it to produce an
output that gives feedback, and ensures control mechanisms.
Healthcare IT Systems Accessibility
Accessibility in IT systems refers to ensuring a consistent experience for everyone who
uses a specific IT system. It means that everyone can use a system, and they get the same
experience in how they navigate through the system, the perception, and understanding they
gain. Healthcare settings have incorporated the concept of accessibility in their information
systems (Wager, Lee, & Glaser, 2017). Health facilities use accessibility to analyze services
provided and detect areas with inadequacy.
Accessibility is applied in healthcare settings in diagnoses; diagnostics made are
consistent if analyzed using similar systems by different professionals. This ensures that a patient
gets an appropriate prescription. For instance, if a particular patient is diagnosed with cancerous
cells, the patient is will not be prescribed for any chemotherapy sessions without the diagnosis
