Amazon one of the biggest e-commerce companies in the world as well as to provide

recommendations for the managers and decisionmakers of Amazon to improve their CSR work
will be given out at the end of the report.
2. Overview of Amazon
Amazon is one of the top leaders in the e-commerce sector that specializes in the distribution of a
wide range of products and services, including books, home appliances, clothing, office tools,
electronic devices, entertainment services and so on. The company was established in 1994 by Jeff
Bezos, who is still the company’s current Chief Executive Officer, and is headquartered in Seattle,
the United States. Amazon is known as one of the biggest cloud services providers for business
clients through the company-made Amazon Web Services, a giant player in the video and media
streaming sector through Amazon Prime, and the owner of one of the largest natural foods chain
in the world Whole Foods. The company has also been manufacturing their own set of electronic
devices and tools that are positioned at the lower-end of the market, including Amazon Basics,
Kindle tablets, Alexa and its Echo product lineups (Vault, 2019).
Amazon divides their operations and reporting into three main segments: North America,
International and Amazon Web Services, with the first of which brings the largest amount of
revenue to the company over the years. Among its subsidiaries and product lines, Whole Foods
and Amazon Prime brings the least amount of revenues to the company, with the numbers being 5
percent and 10 percent of the total revenues, respectively. Amazon’s vision is “to be earth's most
customer-centric company; to build a place where people can come to find and discover anything
they might want to buy online” (Farfan, 2019).
