Topic 6 DQ 2
The WHO has been active in assisting refugees since its inception. In recent years
they have focused on improving food security and nutrition among refugees who have fled
war-torn areas. They also provide vaccinations against preventable diseases such as cholera
and polio among these populations. The role of governmental agencies differs greatly from
that of an international organization when dealing with humanitarian crises such as those
experienced by migrants today (Stoddard, 2021). However, there are some similarities, such
as their ability to provide funding for relief efforts or medical supplies required during these
times without relying solely on donations from private.
The role of an international organization is to provide technical assistance, advocacy,
training, and capacity building on health issues related to refugees and migrants (Stoddard,
2021). The organization works with governments, health professionals, and faith-based
organizations to address these needs. The government's role is to provide national leadership
on policy development, implementation, and evaluation of programs designed to address the
needs of refugees and migrants. They also play key roles in providing support services such
as education, language training, mental health care, and access to clean water and sanitation
facilities.
Countries that are members of international organizations will have access to
resources such as training, technical assistance, and financial support to help them implement
the WHO plan. These resources could include funding for healthcare workers who speak
multiple languages or have experience working with refugees and migrants. The WHO's role
is to develop policies and strategies ensuring that all countries can access basic healthcare
services for refugees and migrants (Matlin et al., 2018). It does this by monitoring disease
outbreaks in developing and developed countries and providing technical support for relief
efforts following natural disasters or man-made crises.
