Section A: Research Questions
Question 1
Question
Using various sources, conduct a comprehensive definition for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Answer
- The Fourth Industrial Revolution is the ongoing development of digital technologies in industrial practices and daily
living. It builds upon the foundation that was laid by the Third Industrial Revolution, primarily the fast motion in
which information moves between people. Although both these revolutions are digital, a clear distinction can be
made between the two in size and scale. The Fourth Industrial Revolution goes beyond, impressively analysing the
technologies and system the previous revolution failed to and morphing together the digital and physical worlds.
Digital technologies are now the norm, deeply embedded in the physical, social and political areas of our lives. With
the rise of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, we have seen the rise of these digital technologies with examples
including but not limited robotics, the Internet of Things, 3-D printing and artificial intelligence and have
simultaneously seen the benefits they come with of impeccable large-quality data storage, transmission and
processing.
