Introduction
A cinema is a movie theater that has practiced many changes because of technological
advancements. These changes have negatively affected the rate at which the theater shows are
attended. Its main revenues have highly gone up due to the rise in the ticket prices, advertising
costs and the concessions. Home theater systems, the high demand for videos, quick DVD
movies release and the internet streamlining is some of the technological advancements that the
Cinemaplex are concerned about. Of late, the Cinemaplex has come up with some strategies that
enable them to earn revenue. This is by mostly selling their concessions also screening some of
the sold advertisements to any of the patrons who are drawn into the movie.
Discussion
Some industries and especially the Cinema industries are far more profitable than other
industries. This is because of the dynamism of the competitive forces used by the industry as
compared to those used by other industries. A competitive analysis shows that some of the five
competitive forces as described by Michael Porter are threats of new competitors or the new
entrants into the market, the buyers’ bargaining powers, the threats of substitutes, the bargaining
powers of suppliers and lastly the degree of existing rivalry between the current competitors. The
threat of the new entrants into the market shows that any new entry into the market can cause a
sharp rise into the level of competition into that market, thus minimizing its attractiveness. It
mostly depends on the barriers into the entry whereby some industries have exceptionally high
entry barriers and some others like the cinema industry has easy entry barriers.
Some of the leading barriers to entry are investment or capital requirements, economies
of scale, industry’s distribution channel access the cost of customers switching and the high
