BREITT, STARR & DIAMOND CASE STUDY 2
Employing a general manager was a good idea since none of the three partners had any
managerial experience. The second reason was that the firm was getting bigger and this means
that they had more employees. The style of leadership that Brad Howser should have gone with
was democratic leadership. This style of leadership has everyone in hierarchical management to
have equal power. What this means is that all the employees would be involved in decision-
making processes. Thus they would be able to provide their input concerning various aspect that

them leaving the firm. Before brad came into management, the employees had a working system,
but when he arrived, he completely disrupted the system. Some of the employees had flexible
hours, but this aspect changed from an autocratic form of leadership in which Brad decided to
have all employees report to work by 9.00 am. The leadership fit was perfect at first since there
were a lot of elements that needed to be rectified. However, later on, the form of leadership
