Inequalities among Ethnic Minorities and Women
Inequalities among aged women and ethnic minorities are not new to the people of
America. Despite America's large gross domestic product and economy, the people of
America are still experiencing inequalities, especially the minority groups and older women.
Below are ways in which inequalities among ethnic minorities and women are practiced in
the U.S.:
The chapter emphasizes inequality and discrimination among various ethnic groups
and women, especially the aged ones. Regarding discrimination, age in women doesn't matter
as even older women are not spared from being viewed as minors. This is because women
cannot be involved in structures and economics the same way as men. The most affected
group by the double standard of aging are the older women, who are viewed harshly (Hillier
and Barrow,2014). When we look at poverty, most poor older people comprise mainly
females. In the united states, ethnic elders are exposed to suffering due to inequality
practiced.
When we compare the lives of elders between the whites and the blacks, we find that
elderly blacks have inadequate infrastructure, poor materials for comfort, less life expectancy,
and are more impoverished than elderly whites. Even though some African Americans are
doing well, others are disadvantaged. They rely on religion, families, and perseverance as
their strengths. Old Hispanics are known not to exhibit a homogenous relationship as they are
located in different areas such as south and central American countries, Puerto Rico, Mexico,
and Cuba. The challenges experienced by aged Hispanics include cultural and linguistic
hindrance to assimilating and low socioeconomics position. The aged among Asian
Americans are also located in various countries and have also been exposed to challenges.
Some of the difficulties endured by elderly Asian Americans are discrimination, racism, and
