This essay will be about activity plans in Early Childhood Education. An activity plan is
a plan developed for everyone based on their activity evaluation. The plan must identify
meaningful activities that promote or help sustain each child's physical and emotional well-being
and reflect the child's activity preferences and needs. (Law Insider, Inc., Activity Plan
Definition). I will start by looking at the activity plan in the book, creating my plan, and then
describing the primary purpose of my plan and how each element relates to the purpose.
The purpose of the activity in the book is to help the children develop their fine motor
skills by letting children draw in the sand. This activity also allows them to be creative with what
they draw. I decided that the children's fine motor skills development was due to the teacher
having the children write letters and draw shapes in the sand. One revision I would make would
be to allow the children to use other tools such as straws, pencils (unsharpened), or a stick. The
second revision that I would make would be to have the sand different colors so when they are
drawing in it, they can practice naming their colors. The third revision would be to have the
children also draw numbers in the sand.
The activity that I would have the kindergartners learn is the parts of a book. The goal is
for the children to be able to name each part of any book. The Nebraska State Standard is LA
0.1.1.c Identify parts of a book. (ELA Standards K-12: 2014 Updated 2014). The content would
include telling the children where the cover, pages, title, author, and illustrator are in a book. The
materials would consist of a book and a larger laminated copy of the cover and the inside page of
a book so the children can match which label goes in which box. The procedure would be to
choose a book and have the laminated book worksheet hung on a wall. I would then invite the
children to sit on the circle time rug and talk to them about what an author does and what an
illustrator does. Next, I would start showing the children each part of the book. For the last
