We could all look back at our early days and probably notice we still carry a skill when
learned from our first job. Do you remember your first day of your first job? I am sure our first
supervisor remembers. One concern is communication, which may lead to group behavioral
issues when hiring employees as their first job. We will address these concerns as we walk a
candidate through the employment process and how it impacts the organization. Ultimately,
addressing the turnover rate and the cost organizations incur.
Recruiting
Every organization takes a chance of a loss when recruiting new talent, there are no
guarantees. So, what do you do when a candidate shows up to a job interview late wearing a
Nike jogging suit and some flip flops? Or better yet checks a Facebook alert in the middle of
answering an interview question? This would be a nightmare for managers recruiting new talent
because, from the start, the first impression could send the wrong message that the potential
candidate does not take the job to serious and clearly is not groomed for the work environment.
Consequently, is the answer not to hire them?
For decades, fast food chains have always been the launching point for anyone seeking
employment for the first time. Often, the demographics are young kids in high school or recent
graduates seeking to fulfill entry-level positions to build their resumes, immigrants entering the
United States of America on work visas, disabled, or retired elderly working to stay busy.
Meanwhile, the Equal Employment Opportunity clearly protects the rights of people against
discrimination. Moreover, the average cost per hire is $4,129, and it takes just about 42 days to
fill a given position ("Average Cost-Per-Hire For Companies Is $4,129, SHRM Survey Finds
", 2019). Hence, scouting for new hires for entry-level positions puts the company in a higher
