DISCUSSION: INDICATORS AND SIGNPOSTS 2
Discussion: Indicators and Signposts
It is true that politics influence terrorist activities either through the actions they do or the
words they say. Political groups are funding terror extremists when they fund them to attack
other terrorists (Bergen, Ford, Sims, & Sterman, (n.d.). In the United States, jihadists are
constantly causing attacks to the country as they continue to be funded by political groups that
have opposing ideologies from that of the government. On significant indicator is how
politicians, such as Sadaam Hussein and groups like the Pakistan government, are being involved
in terrorism. One of the alternative futures of the discussion is that terrorism is made possible not
only because of political funding but also because of the quest for seeking power. Terrorists
cause terror to people to either get authority or political power in the countries they are or
influence decisions to work in their favor. A strong indicator is how terrorist groups are not only
attacking the U.S. but also harming people who are supporting governments and other groups in
their regions. According to Abrahms (2008), terrorists attack people for political gains. People
use politics to gain political gains, such as creating protests against the ruling or existing
regimes.
Indicators of the involvement of the political element in terrorism are the new strategic
intervention that governments are using to neutralize he attacks and radicalism. The fact that
governments are using strict policy concessions reveals that politics is being used as a forefront
for terrorism. Terrorists are also using terrorist acts to gain political gains or influence certain
decisions. The idea is to make politics less appealing to terrorists to prevent them from using it as
a tool of getting what they want (Abrahms, 2008). Decreasing political benefits by implementing
institutions such as democracies also limit the perceived gains terrorists think they may have.
Democracies give power to people and reduce any elements of autocratic leadership.
