Analysis of the Attack
Terrorism and an act of violence look similar on the surface which becomes a bit confusing
for most. The difference between the two is that terrorism creates fear not only within the victims
that are targeted, but it impacts a much more extensive audience (Ritchie, hasell, Appel, &
Roser, 2013). It generally demolishes everyone’s sense of security in locations that are relatively
familiar to all just like that of the 2005 London bombings. These four radicalized individuals
were instructed by a senior jihadist to carry out an attack on Britain, took to London’s
transportation system to disrupt the lives and security of everyone. They strategically detonated
four separate suicide bombs, 3 of them were detonated on trains and one suicide bomb was
detonated on the number 30 double decker bus that killed a total of 52 people and injured over
700 (Ray).
Ideology & Motivation
These four extremist’s objective was to incorporate Islamic Jihad to London by boarding
trains and a bus with explosives and taking their lives and the lives of others. These Al-Qaeda
affiliates targeted London because in their mind, Western societies were morally corrupt, and
American and British civilians should be liable for the unjust policies set forth by American and
British governments in the Middle East (Blanchard, 2007). These Muslim extremists felt like
their people were being oppressed and until it stops, they will continue to retaliate (D & Mitchell,
2012).
Connections
The attack on London’s transportation system was intended to draw attention to the anger that
Muslims held in regards to Britain’s response to the war in Iraq. They wanted Britain to pull their
troops out of Iraq, but they refused to disperse until the scourge of terrorism in Iraq was
dominated (Phillips & Gardiner, 2005). Britain’s foreign policy in the Middle East created a fire
