Sprouting: From Seed to Character
Fill out this form for the character you’re working on. You can type as much text as
you want into each “box.” If you feel limited by the form, feel free to turn in an
additional file with notes as well.
Part 1 - the Humors
The four humors are Sanguine, Choleric, Phlegmatic, and Melancholy. According to
the theory, everyone has all four in some proportion, so, rather than choose one,
rank them from them most to the least dominant (one-word answers):
1.Phlegmatic
2.Choleric
3.Melancholic
4.Sanguine
Now, briefly explain your first choice. What specific trait or behavior that your
character exhibits made you decide that he or she was more this humor than any
other. If, for example, a character is Sanguine, do not say that she is cheerful - that's
given. Instead, perhaps she has a knack for making others happy, and that is the
evidence of her Sanguine character. Write at least two full sentences about this one
(1) specific trait.
Phlegmatic is the number one trait because she has a belief of caring for others. She
wants to make the world better and take care of people in need.
Now, give a specific trait or behavior exhibited by your character that is associated
with a different humor - any of them but your first choice. Write at least two full
sentences about this one (1) specific trait.
Choleric is next on the list. She can be percieved as this because she is goal-
orientated. She takes care of business and knows how to manage things.
Part 2 - Western Zodiac
The 12 signs of the Western Zodiac are (in order): Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer,
Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. You've
already determined what your character's sign is (for the Character Fact Sheet),
based on his or her birthday. Now, based on the reading, pick the sign that best suits
your character's disposition (ignoring birthday). You can, if you wish, describe your
character as on the cusp of two signs (e.g., "Sagittarius on the cusp of Capricorn").
Answer with one word or a short phrase.
Pisces all the way. Pisces is all about caring about others and trying to please others.

Now. give a specific trait or behavior of your character that aligns with the sign
you've chosen. Write at least two full sentences about this one (1) specific trait.
Pisces are major people pleasers who put others' above themselves. They don't do
well with judgement and disappoint because they are really sensitive.
Part 3 - Chinese Zodiac
The signs of the Eastern (or Chinese) Zodiac are: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon,
Snake, Horse, Goat/Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. Each of these 12 signs is
associated with a year. Without worrying about birth year, choose the sign that best
describes your character's personality (one word answer):
Tiger
Each sign in the Eastern Zodiac is considered to be especially compatible with two
other signs. List the most-compatible signs for your character (one word answers):
1.Horse
2.Dog
Similarly, each sign is considered to be incompatible with two other signs. List the
signs your character is incompatible with here (one word answers):
1.Snake
2.Monkey
Give a trait or behavior your character exhibits that relates to his or her sign. Write
at least two full sentences about this one (1) specific trait.:
My character is an unpredictable one. She can be charming and well-liked, but has
the same tendencies of being an irritable and overinduldging person.
Name someone else in your story, and choose a "compatible" (friend, lover) or
"incompatible" (rival, enemy) sign for them. Then describe the nature of this
character's relationship to your first character. For Name and Sign, answer briefly.
For Relationship, describe the nature of the relationship in at least two full sentences:
Name: Christian
Sign: Horse
Relationship (two or more sentences): Christian is able to help my charactuer
balance out the negatives because he is always energetic and passionate. Even when
my character can become irritable, it doesn't affect Christian too much because he is
so postive.
