Relationship between Theory and Observation
Science begins once the observation takes place. Observing nature, different
objects, and their effects become the reasons for working unless something new or
different is generated. So, observation is mostly considered the first step to move to
laws and discoveries. Different work revealed that something new is started once a
point is observed followed by the theory that is constructed vigilantly. The
construction of theory is very important as it plays a very important role to account
for the data. However, some cases believe that theory is considered and constructed
first after that data is collected with an intention of providing pieces of evidence or
refutation for that theory.
Observations are sometimes known as facts. Both theory and observation can
not be worked upon properly if one of these is missing. Observation is mostly
considered with an intention to support theories. On the other hand, theories are a
connection track between what observation brings forward to reveal about any type of
astrophysical objects and what the predictions or believe about any object is. So,
directly or indirectly, theory and observation relate to each other and can not be
accomplished if one of the processes is not considered properly.
If to consider logical positivism, scientific theories can be considered, worked
on, modified, or verified by facts. Whereas, different observations of the entire world
or even the universe including different planets are not only dependent on theories. In
fact, these are widely dependent on different objectives observations, and

investigations. Therefore, conflicts and disputes between a lot of competing theories
can easily be sorted out by simply appealing to these realities and impartial sources.
Considering all these facts, N. R. Hanson showed his conflicts and argued that all the
observations should be looked upon as theory-laden. Moreover, he pointed out that
the conceptual framework is helpful in pointing out different ways we see the world
together. According to him, this was one of the main reasons that we all do our level
best to make observations for the same thing from its different angles, and eventually,
all of us perceive the same object but in different ways.
Popper, a well-known scientist had been working on different scientific
methods. He gave the name of “bricks” to observation. According to him these
observations or bricks are used to construct the building of theory. If the observation
is not available, theory can not be constructed. If we want to construct the building of
theory, the bricks of different observations are connected and their connection can be
done with unavoidable principles and laws followed in science. These principles can
be induction, complete accuracy and accomplishment of the observations, and above
all uniformity of nature.
One of the most important theory-observation relations is considered into play
since Popper pointed out the fact that the theory is built depending on the main feature
of feasibility. As a result, there is a need of making further observations if there is a
demand to falsify any theory. In this way, new observations are used to falsify
theories and hence give rise to new theories with many other new observations and so
on. So, both observation and theories are strongly connected with each other. Any
observation lead to theory, this theory makes a path to even new observations which
take to new theories. And these new theories lead to more new observations which
become the reasons for the continuity of a lot of new discoveries. This is what Popper
