The technological advancements that have been made in the modern world has made the need for
cybersecurity and a means to combat cybercrime one of the most important security measures for any
organization, wherever they are located in the world. Through the use of the internet, the world is now
connected, and anyone can access information with the click of a mouse button. By securing the
connections, an organization is allowing itself to continue with business as usual. The moment that the
connection becomes insecure, is the moment that the organization may fail.
Securing assets in the United States is a task that requires lots of planning and preparation and
is even more frightening of a task when the organization is established overseas. There are lots of
factors that come into play when overcoming challenges overseas, such as: the infrastructure in that
country, the internet service providers configuration used by the country, rules and policies that govern
international businesses and the physical aspect of security are just a few (Wright, 2018). These are all
items that need to be carefully considered before bringing a business to an overseas location. Any of the
listed above can have serious consequences should the proper protocols not be followed when
establishing the business. The need for information continues to grow and can be more useful than ever
for a criminal to exploit a business.
The cybersecurity industry has developed and employed practices that are recognized
worldwide. The United States is involved with the standardization of cybersecurity around the world and
employs the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) practices (Naden, 2019), it also has its
hand in the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS) (U.S. to Help
Define New International Standards for Consumer Privacy by Design, 2018). By having internationally
recognized practices in place, the United States and other countries can help each other establish
standards that should be followed to prevent the unwarranted and unwanted disruption of cybercrime.
