Running Head: DETERMINING RACE VIA GENETICS
In the conceptual understanding of biological qualities, distinctions have been made
concerning the difference between racialized and genetically inherited traits. The differences can
be determined based on biological factors that are used to pass coded information to offspring
essentially. Genetically inherited traits are those passed from parent to offspring via the
reproductive process, which helps to determine coded DNA that is unique in nature. As a result,
a person can possess traits that are passed from parent to child. These include physical features
such as facial symmetry, height, and even certain disabilities (Chou, 2017). On the other hand,
racialized traits are those associated with a particular group of people that are distinctively used
to identify them. The similarities that the group of people have can be traced back to generational
relations, which are used to determine the family from which a person originates. It should be
noted that extensive research into the application seeks to evaluate the influence of other
determinants such as differential survival, which is largely affected by environmental factors as
well as the probability of mutation and the existence of gene variation.
Despite the relatively natural characteristics that are shared by certain persons that infer a
racial identity, certain assumptions are made concerning people who have been identified to be
of a particular race. One major assumption that people of the same race group will show similar
characteristics regardless of environmental factors (Council, 2004). As such, there is an
inclination by society to determine background based on the racialized traits. The second
assumption is that racialized traits can form the basis for determining interbehavioral
characteristics, an aspect that caused debate in variant societies due to it being associated with
segregation and marginalization of communities.
Several considerations have been put into determining how the aspect of race plays into
genetics, and one biological explanation that has been put across is the aspect of genetic distance,
