WATERFALL OR AGILE DEVELOPMENT 2
Waterfall or Agile Development
Agile and Waterfall development are some of the methods used in software development
lifecycle. They are both effective, but one needs to know the kind of approach to utilize when
choosing one of the methods. In big projects, the junior analysts proposed agile development
because it provides room for change and it’s less costly (Stober & Hansmann, 2010). Looking at
the characteristics of the method, it can be said that agile development is appropriate for the
project.
Agile development is the best for big projects because of several reasons. This method
provides an avenue for the project manager to make the needed changes in a project. With this
development method, project managers are able to add features that assist in keeping with the
latest developments in the industry (Brechner & Waletzky, 2015). Furthermore, agile
methodology makes room for changes to be carried out particularly in the initial stages. Re-
writes to the projects are easily made and clients are able to decide and alter what they had
proposed. Waterfall, on the other hand, does not accommodate change. The concept of analysis,
design, code, and test makes it difficult in making changes to large projects (Brechner &
Waletzky, 2015). Secondly, Agile technique is appropriate for the big project because it is less
costly and less risky, unlike, Waterfall method, which is because one will not know if they will
finish the project. It is marred with technical risk as it is difficult to know if the project is tested.
Therefore, it can be concluded that the system analyst is right, as agile method is more effective
for the large project.
