DISCUSSION: SPREADING INNOVATION 2
Discussion: Spreading Innovation
A particular innovation of interest is retinopathy screening. Such screenings are essential in
addressing the problem of blindness. Notably, the main area of focus is blindness caused by
diabetes. Therefore, the innovation may be used to monitor such patients and establish any
development of blindness as the case might impact them negatively (AHRQ, 2019). Results from
studies show that patients who have no retinopathy and who receive systematic screening using
the innovation have a 95% chance of remaining free of sight-threatening retinopathy over the next
5 years. However, indications also show that only 50% of all US diabetic patients receive the
recommended annual screening for diabetic retinopathy.
I might introduce a similar innovation in my organization by first acquiring the screening
equipment and providing personnel within the organization with the necessary training. Also,
through the training process, I will seek to enable the personnel to identify the positive outcomes
which they will provide in the lives of their patients (Quellec et al., 2017). Essentially, it will be
possible for them to diagnose patients with diabetic retinopathy with great ease. The process will
enable them to be outstanding in addressing the needs of patients as they will be keen to attend to
them on a timely basis. The mechanism will, therefore, be appropriate in boosting the health of
such patients effectively.
One strategy I would employ to sustain the innovation would entail constantly training the
personnel and enabling them to attain the necessary skills which will enable them to be outstanding
in the practice. I will also ensure that appropriate funding is provided towards the innovation
(Cavan et al., 2017). The process will, therefore, be necessary in enabling the innovation to
continue effectively and work towards addressing the various challenges which they experience.
As a result, it will be possible for them to attain improved health outcomes.
