Why You Should Avoid Automation at Workplaces
Do you know the effects of automation at workplaces? Automation refers to the use of
machines that barely require human force to operate. Companies should avoid full automation
and consider human workers for most tasks in the production units. A common example of
automation in the current organizations is robots in the production, supply, and logistics units.
Organizations should avoid robots as they pose more negative effects to the economic world than
advantages.
Robots contribute to the loss of employment opportunities which risks severe social
issues. Statistics indicate that at least 260,000 jobs in the United States have been lost since 2000
due to automation. According to Flynn (2022), the figure represents approximately 2 percent of
the manufacturing workforce in the United States. Interestingly, as technology grows, robots are
expected to take up more roles, but organizations need to be moderate with incorporating
automation. The uncontrolled incorporation of automation at workplaces even risks specialized
professions such as health care providers.
Automation of operations at workplaces increases the risk of data breaches and issues
related to cybersecurity. Software applications without close human supervision are easily
accessible wirelessly, which risks data breaches. Computers and other smart devices used in
organizations to perform bulk operations can lead to serious security issues. Organizations need
to consider safety measures when embracing automated applications.
A complete shift of operations from conventional to robotic involves considerably
expensive details. Did you know that automated procedures require constant maintenance?
Research shows that maintenance of some robotic machines can be costlier than the initial cost
