Public Health Occupations in KSA
Over the last half-century, Saudi Arabia's public health workforce has significantly
shifted. Traditional medical treatment and public health care were the past's mainstay of public
health work. However, there has been a movement toward more community-based and
preventative treatment during the last several decades. One of the main reasons for this is the
rising frequency of chronic illnesses, the aging of our population, and the demand for more
sustainable and cost-effective medical services (Jradi et al., 2020, p.12126). Due to this, more
occupations in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health policy, and health education are being
created. Public health occupations in Saudi Arabia will likely continue to change and become
increasingly focused on prevention and health promotion over the next two decades as the nation
confronts new and varied issues in terms of health (Jradi et al., 2020, p.12126). Changing
demographics and the rising frequency of chronic illnesses like heart disease and diabetes will
impact how healthcare is delivered.
Background facts and important milestones that mark the evolution of public health
occupations in the Kingdom
When the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was established in 1970, it began a new era. That
year, Saudi Arabia's oil output increased dramatically, resulting in a sudden infusion of cash and
a massive shift in the Saudi economy. Because of the increasing need for public health experts
that have resulted from this rise in the economy, the government bureaucracy has grown as well.
Public health training and education in Saudi Arabia rose significantly after 1970 when the Saudi
government founded the Ministry of Health and spent more substantially (Wald, 2020, p.746).
