Operations Plan
My selected quantitative elements are competition, supply chain, and the target market
for Amazon Company. The e-commerce giant is considering venturing into the Omni channel
market to counter competition with offline retailers, including Walmart, Target, and Tesco. So
far, Amazon has acquired Whole Foods in an attempt to enter into the physical store business.
The expansion into brick-and-mortar retailing will allow the company to reach and serve its
offline customers.
Subjective Data and Actual Demand Outcomes
Subjective data refers to information obtained through an individual’s point of view,
feelings, and perceptions. The subjective data involves is that Amazon will strengthen its
competitive advantage and expand its customer base by venturing into the physical store market.
The company holds a smaller percentage of the market compared to its rivals. While the store is
a leader in the e-commerce market, it trails Walmart in the physical store retail market.
According to Coppola (2021), Amazon had 589 physical stores as of July 2020. Over 500 of
these stores belong to the supermarket chain Whole Foods. As such, the company needs to
increase its physical retail stores to compete favorably in the market.
Since acquiring Whole Foods, Amazon’s income has increased drastically. The
acquisition increased the offline footprint in the company. Cheng (2019) indicates that the
grocery stores helped the company generate up to $18 billion in revenues in 2018. The chart
below indicates Amazon’s revenues from 2017 throughout 2020.
